Welcome to the Department of Zoology. We have been undergoing rapid progressive change in the department hiring nine new faculty in the past two years and completely revamping our curricula in the biology, zoology, and physiology majors many with an interactive learning format. Moreover, our faculty have been very successful in obtaining competitive research grants including those from the National Science Foundation, U. S. Department of Agriculture, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Our graduate student program is among the strongest in the country with many of our graduates carrying distinguished fellowships. Our dedicated commitment to research extends beyond the faculty and graduate students. Indeed, wherever the department can, we integrate undergraduates into our research endeavors not only for the valuable experience it gives our students but also for the financial support it provides. As you can see these are exciting times in Zoology and we welcome your careful perusal of our website. If you would like further information, please don’t hesitate to contact us.- Dr. Loren Smith, Professor of Zoology and Department Head
