Ecotoxicology and Water Quality Research Laboratory
The Ecotoxicology and Water Quality Research Lab (EWQRL) offers a unique
combination of research and service to the public on transport, fate, and effect of
environmental contaminants, and has achieved national recognition. A highly skilled
staff of ecotoxicologists has assisted numerous industries and municipalities in
complying with EPA's biomonitoring requirements to determine if wastewater discharges
are toxic. If toxicity is detected, the combination of toxicology, aquatic chemistry,
and advanced wastewater treatment technology is used in Toxicity Identification and
Toxicity Reduction Evaluation protocol to eliminate the potential environmental
contamination. Students in Zoology, Environmental Sciences, and Civil Engineering
have the opportunity to conduct research through EWQRL.

Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit
The Oklahoma Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit has been
affiliated with the Department of Zoology since 1948. Research is conducted on a wide
variety of fisheries and wildlife topics in cooperation with the Oklahoma Department
of Wildlife Conservation and the U.S. Department of Interior, and is designed to
provide these and other cooperators with useful information on resource management
issues. Students receiving support from the Unit enter one of the departmental
graduate programs.
