Specific Interests

My research examines the effects of contaminants on aquatic organisms across different levels of biological organization. For example, one of my current interests is the influence of contaminant stress on energy allocation in organisms. We are measuring parameters such as oxygen consumption, hatching time and growth in amphibian embryos and larvae in an attempt to develop an energetics-based model of effects. At the other end of the spectrum, I am interested in the response of macroinvertebrate communities to pollutant exposure. This includes the use of macroinvertebrates to develop indices of community integrity and the comparative response of invertebrates from different habitats/ecoregions.
