How to distribute bacterium cells across agar using the "swirl" method.

  1. The jerky motion used while "swirling" ensures that the cells are more evenly distributed.

How to distribute bacterium cells across the agar using the "spreading" method.

Notice:

  1. The spreader is sterilized in alcohol before and after each use.
  2. Spread the cells lightly across the agar starting from the center, moving out, and back again - like icing a cake.

How to use a UV light

Notice:

  1. Never shine the light at anyone, or turn it on without attaching it to the protective cover.
  2. Calculate your exposure time before turning on the UV light.
  3. After attaching the UV light to the protective cover, place the light over the uncovered plate and turn it on for the amount of time calculated.
